Addressing food insecurity and workforce training in our community

Recovering surplus food and using it to create healthy meals in a culinary job training program for those facing barriers to employment

The York Empowerment Shop (YES!), pitched by Douglas Knight, addresses two challenges facing our community - food insecurity and workforce training. The social enterprise engine will recover surplus food from restaurants, grocery stores, food manufacturers, caterers, farms, and other food businesses, and use it to create healthy, ready-to-eat meals made by members of a culinary job training program built for those with high barriers to employment. The meals will be distributed to community members in need.

VOTE for YES! as your community favorite to receive the Community Choice Cash Prize on April 18th.

To vote you must DONATE! One dollar equals one vote (i.e. $10=10 votes). Please note: your donation is not guaranteed to go to the finalist you voted for. The total amount raised will go the finalist with the most votes and be awarded as the community cash prize.
